Rocktron Silver Dragon
Monster Rock cable
Peavey Rage 158 solid state amp – on clean setting
COMMENT:
The useful design and tonal value of the Rocktron Silver Dragon is really a steal for its cheap price. This is one of the best buy you could make if you are after authentic, warm tube tones and violin-like sustain. Check out the gear review of the Guitar One July 2005 issue. This pedal was reviewed against more expensive pedals and this one got the Guitar 1 Award.
Just be careful with the controls of this thing. Too much overdrive will create unwanted noise. A little amount of distortion on both the tube and solid state section goes a long way.
I’m more into hard rock and alternative rock so I usually just use the tube distortion section (Awaken) to fatten and warm up my tone. I just use the solid state distortion (Slayer) to get close to Carlos Santana’s or Brian May’s violin-like sustain. The Slayer section also gives you that “sag” or extra feel to your single note lines.
These sound clips were recorded dry thru a mic and no other effects were used. The amplifier was on the clean setting.
I’m not gonna bore you anymore. Just check out the mp3 sound clips to hear what I’m talking about.
